Staff Sergeant Englander was a member of Detachment A-109, 5th Special Forces Group. On May 2, 1968, he was advising an assault operation southwest of Thuong Duc Special Forces Camp, when he came under intense fire killing him. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
