Sergeant First Class Erdman was a veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was declared Missing in Action on May 18, 1951, but later declared taken Prisoner of War and placed in a house near Chaun-ni, South Korea and killed on May 24, 1951.
