During the Korean War he was assigned to the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, North Carolina. on July 17, 1953, he was a passenger of a Fairchild Packet transport aircraft when it crashed near the Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida killing all 41 personnel on board.
