Captain Featherston was a member of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Udorn Airfield, Thailand. On December 30, 1969, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission over the Plain of Jars, Laos when it was hit by hostile fire and exploded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
