Captain Ferguson was a member of the 555th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Udorn Airfield, Thailand. On December 30, 1969, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission over the Plain of Jars, Laos when it was hit by hostile fire and exploded. CAPT Ferguson's remains have been recovered and interred at a private cemetery in Washington state. His name is permanently inscribed on the Vietnam Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. CAPT Ferguson's remains have been recovered and identified in 2014.
