Ensign Fleck was awarded the American Defence Service Medal with Fleet Clasp, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African- Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal.
Notes
Ensign Fleck was a veteran of World War II. During the Korean War he was assigned to the Coast Guard Air Detachment, Biloxi, Mississippi. On July 7, 1953, he was the pilot of a Coast Guard PBY-5 rescue aircraft on a mission to evacuate an injured seaman aboard a shrimp boat in the North Pass of the Lower Mississippi (Louisiana). The aircraft went out of control upon landing and sank killing him and two other crewmen.
