Notes
First Lieutenant France was born in the United States on January 23, 1894. During World War I, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps, U.S. Army. He was promoted to First Lieutenant and assigned to the 7th Aero Squadron, Signal Corps Reserve at Ft. Randolph, Canal Zone. On April 24, 1918 his hydroplane caught fire and he jumped from his burning aircraft into Gatun Lake where he accidentally drowned. He was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery. France Field, Canal Zone was named after him.
