Colonel Frederick was a member of the 355th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Takhli Air Base, Thailand. On March 15, 1967, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a combat mission over North Vietnam near the Laotian border. His aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on April 20, 2004 and identified on October 6, 2004. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
