Lieutenant Colonel Frederick was a member of the 80th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On July 5, 1967, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a combat mission over Haiphong, North Vietnam. During the attack, his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed. His remains were recovered on July 31, 1989 and identified on December 27, 1989. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
