Private First Class Gerber was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on January 19, 1952 and returned to duty on January 21, 1952. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on January 28, 1952. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
