Colonel Goss was a member of the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron. On April 23, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire. He bailed out successfully and was seen on land. Then contact was lost. His remains were recovered on August 23, 1978 and identified on September 11, 1978. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
