Master Sergeant Green was the flight engineer of a RB-29A Flying Fortress reconnaissance aircraft with the 31st Strategic Reconnaissance Squadron, U. S. Air Force. On November 9, 1950, while returning from a combat mission, his aircraft was damaged by a MiG-15. It crash landed short of the runway at Johnson Air Base, Japan.
