Major Green was the pilot of a F4U-4B Corsair fighter with Marine Fighter Squadron 214, Marine Air Group 12, 1st Marine Air Wing. On May 8, 1951, while on a combat mission, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and he parachuted to the ground successfully. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on January 11, 1954. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
