Lieutenant Greenleaf was a member of Fighter Squadron 114, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On April 14, 1972, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4J) on a bombing mission at the Demilitarized Zone. During the bombing run his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed one mile south of Cam Lo, South Vietnam. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
