Staff Sergeant Grosse was a rifleman with Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On March 28, 1968, he was on a search and destroy mission in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam. While moving in file down a trail, his unit was ambushed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
