Aviation Machinist's Mate Third Class Haggerty was a crew member of a PB4Y-5A Privateer patrol bomber with Patrol Bomber Squadron 48, based at Naval Air Station Sangley Point, Philippines. On April 6, 1958, the aircraft was departing to patrol the Korean area when it crashed shortly after takeoff from Iwakuni, Japan killing 9 crewmen.
