Colonel Hamilton was a member of the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On January 31, 1966, he was the pilot of a Fighter (F-195D) on an armed reconnaissance over Ha Tinh Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire. His remains were recovered on March 4, 2005 and identified on October 7, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
