Captain Hanley was a member of the 357th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On November 4, 1969, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission over Laos, when his aircraft crashed. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. CAPT Hanley's remains have been recovered and identified.
