For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Hannah was awarded the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Sergeant First Class Hannah was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on January 28, 1951 and died while a prisoner on June 30, 1951. Sergeant First Class Hannah's remains have been recovered and identified. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
