Private First Class Harris was a member of Company C, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On October 22, 1966, he was on a combat mission in Binh Dinh region of South Vietnam. While attempting to cross a stream he was swept away by the current. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
