Captain Harris was a member of the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On May 10, 1972, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4E) on a mission over Hanoi, North Vietnam. His aircraft was hit, exploded and crashed. His remains were recovered on March 5, 1996 and identified on May 23, 1997. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
