Aviation Electronics Radio Technician, Second Class Hartzheim was a member of Observation Squadron 67, at Nakhon Phanom, Thailand. On February 27, 1968, he was a crew member of a Lockheed Neptune Observation Patrol Aircraft (OP-2E) on an armed patrol 15 miles southwest of the Ban Karai Pass, Khammouane Province, Laos, when it was hit by anti-aircraft artillery killing him. His remains were recovered on November 5, 1996 and identified on February 19, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
