Staff Sergeant Harwood was a member of Detachment B-43, 5th Special Forces Group. On January 15, 1971, he training the 1st Cambodian Mobile Operations Battalion at Nui Ta Bec, five miles northwest of Camp Chi Lang, South Vietnam. A fire fight began at Hill 282 (Nui Ta Bec) and Staff Sergeant Harwood was a declared missing. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
