Specialist, Fourth Class Hiemer was a gunner with Company A, 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On November 17, 1965, he advancing to a landing zone in Pleiku Province, South Vietnam, when his unit came under heavy fire and he was killed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
