Colonel Horne was a member of the 469th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On January 14, 1968, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission near Yen Bai, Nhgia Lo Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were recovered on April 10, 1990 and identified on November 7, 1990. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
