For his leadership and valor, Captain Hoster was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Captain Hoster was the pilot of a F-94B Starfire fighter with the 319th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, U.S. Air Force and had flown 80 missions over Korea. On June 13, 1953, while flying a night combat mission over water, he failed to return to base and was listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on June 13, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
