For his leadership and valor, Sergeant First Class Jackson was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Sergeant First Class Jackson was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on December 18, 1952 and returned to duty on March 2, 1953. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on July 15, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
