Major Jackson was a member of the 25th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On March 23, 1972, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission 25 miles southeast of Muong Nong, Savannakhet Province, Laos, where after egress from the target, the aircraft inverted and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
