Sergeant Jacobsen was a member of Company A, 101st Aviation Battalion, 101st Airborne Division. On May 16, 1971, he was the door gunner in a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) conducting an insertion of ARVN Marines into a landing zone near Hue, South Vietnam when his aircraft received heavy enemy fire, crashed and burned. His remains were recovered on June 7, 1995 and identified on March 24, 2008. SGT Jacobsen's name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
