Sergeant Jarrell was a member of Company L, 3rd Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 7, 1950 and returned to duty on September 12, 1950. He was wounded again in North Korea on November 26, 1950 and returned on December 20, 1950. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in South Korea on February 13, 1951 and was killed by a guard on February 19, 1951. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
