Pfc. Johns was killed on Guadalcanal on Oct. 9, 1942. Initially listed as Missing in Action, his remains were recovered after the war along with that of four other Marines. All five are interred in a group burial in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. His name is permanently engraved on the Walls of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery.
