Captain Kent was a member of the Marine Attack Fighter Squadron 314, Marine Attack Group 13, 1st Marine Air Wing. On December 20, 1968, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4B) on a night bombing mission to interdict enemy movement about 11 miles southwest of Muang Xepon, Savannakhet Province, Laos, when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
