Major Kerr was a member of the 606th Air Commando Squadron, Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Airfield, Thailand. On August 22, 1967, he was the pilot of a Douglas Counter Invader Attack Aircraft (A-26A) over the Plain of Jars, Laos. Radio contact was lost and his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
