Senior Master Sergeant King was a member of the 40th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron, Nakhon Phenom Airbase, Thailand. On December 25, 1968, he was a rescue specialist in a Sikorsky Sea King Search and Rescue Helicopter (HH-3E) recovering a downed American near Ban Karai Pass, Laos. He was lowered on a line below the trees and secured the downed American to the line. As the helicopter pulled away, the cable broke dropping both men. His remains were not recovered.
