For his leadership and valor, Technical Sergeant Kludt was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Purple Heart with Gold Star, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.

Technical Sergeant Kludt was the radar observer of a F7F-3N Tigercat aircraft with Marine Fighter Squadron 542, Marine Air Group 33, 1st Marine Air Wing. On September 24, 1950, while on a combat mission near Seoul, South Korea, his aircraft received a direct hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed into the Han River close to a power plant. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
