First Lieutenant Krogman was a member of the 504th Tactical Air Support Group. On January 17, 1967, he was the pilot of a Cessna Bird Dog Observation Aircraft (O-1G) on a mission at a point west of the Demilitarized Zone in the extreme northern portion of Savannakhet Province, Laos, where he was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were not recovered. 

Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of First Lieutenant Alva Ray Krogman were accounted for in 2020. His name is permanently inscribed on the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
