Damage Controlman First Class Kunsch served aboard the ocean tug USS SARSI (AFT-111) in Korean waters. He was listed as Missing in Action while engaged with the enemy when his ship struck a floating mine on August 27, 1952. He was presumed dead on June 7, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
