Captain Leeser was a member of 40th Air Rescue and Recovery Squadron. On January 28, 1970, he was a crewman of a Sikorsky Sea Stallion Search and Rescue Helicopter (HH-53B) trying to rescue two downed Americans 20 miles northeast of Mu Gia Pass, Laos. When the aircraft was about 50 miles from the downed airman, it was hit by a MiG and exploded.
