Lieutenant Colonel Leetun was a member of the 13th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On September 17, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission between Kep and Loc Binh in Lang Son Province, North Vietnam, when his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on April 12, 1995 and identified on March 17, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
