Lieutenant Colonel Lineberger was a member of the 23rd Tactical Air Support Squadron, Ubon Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand. On January 29, 1971, he was the pilot of a North American Rockwell Bronco (OV10-A) on a search and destroy mission for motorized sampans on the Mekong River. When he reported his last position his aircraft was 27 miles west-southwest of Stung Treng, Cambodia. His remains were recovered on November 16, 2005 and identified on December 12, 2005. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
