For his leadership and valor, Captain Long was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Commendation Medal, the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Captain Long was a decorated veteran of World War II. In Korea, he was a pilot of a F-80 Shooting Star Fighter-Interceptor with the 25th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron, 51st Fighter-Interceptor Group. On August 20, 1951, he departed Suwon Airfield (K-13) on a strafing mission to Chinnampo, North Korea. After the attack his plane flamed out and crashed and he was listed as Missing in Action. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
