Corporal Lovegren was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Division. On March 1, 1969, he was a passenger in a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) that crashed 5 miles southwest of Mo Duc, Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. During the recovery of his remains, the lifting device dropped him about 1,000 meters. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
