Lieutenant Colonel Luna was a member of the 23rd Tactical Air Support Squadron. On February 1, 1969, he was the pilot of a Cessna Skymaster Observation Aircraft (O-2A) on an operational mission near Khe Sanh, Laos. He was shot down about 10 miles southeast of that city. His remains were recovered on November 19, 1999 and identified on October 30, 2000. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
