For his leadership and conspicuous gallantry, Sergeant Mandra was awarded the Silver Star, the Purple Heart with Gold Star, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Sergeant Mandra was a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Wounded in Action while fighting the enemy in Korea during July 1952. He was wounded again on August 7, 1952 while fighting on "Bronco Hill", Korea by a concussion grenade and listed as Missing in Action as of that date. He was presumed dead on January 5, 1954. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
