Captain Manske was a member of the 355th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Tuy Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam. On May 24, 1969, he was the pilot of a North American Super Sabre Fighter (F-100D) on a combat mission in Phu Yen Province, South Vietnam, when his aircraft was hit by ground fire. The aircraft crashed in the South China Sea about 25 miles southeast of Qui Nhon. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
