For his leadership and valor, Sergeant McLaughlin was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart with Gold Star, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes
Sergeant McLaughlin was a member of Company D, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy at the Chosin Reservoir, North Korea on December 7, 1950. SGT McLaughlin's remains have been recovered. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
