Sergeant First Class McLean was a medic assigned to Advisory Team 88, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. On February 9, 1965, he was advising South Vietnamese Regional Forces at Duc Phong, Phuoc Long Province, South Vietnam. That night Duc Phong was overrun by the Viet Cong. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
