First Lieutenant McQuade was a member of Troop F, 8th Cavalry Regiment. On June 11, 1972, he was the pilot of a Hughes Loach Observation Helicopter (OH-6A) was making a visual reconnaissance of the northern provinces of South Vietnam, when the aircraft exploded and burned. His remains were recovered on October 7, 1994 and identified on November 24, 1999. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
