For his leadership and valor, Captain Metzcar was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Korea War Service Medal, the European Theater Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Notes
Captain Metzcar was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. In Korea, he was the Battery Motor Transport Officer with Headquarters Battery, 555th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat Team. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy near Chongpyong, South Korea on April 25, 1951 and died while a prisoner on September 28, 1951 from malnutrition. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
