Second Lieutenant Miller was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 8th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter Bomber Group. On April 13, 1952, while departing for a combat mission with full combat load, his aircraft crashed on takeoff and exploded.
